Bishop’s Stortford College
Co-educational day and boarding school for 4-18 year olds
About the School
Based on the outskirts of a picturesque market town, Bishop’s Stortford College is one of the UK’s top 20 performing independent co-educational schools and consistently among the top 100 independent schools in the country.
As three schools in one, the College is large enough to provide an exceptional range of opportunities, whilst each part is small enough for pupils to be known, valued and nurtured as individuals. Our boarding community, fully integrated with day pupils, benefit from some of the best boarding facilities in the region. The infectious enthusiasm, imagination and dedication of College staff, in partnership with parents, enables pupils to grow into happy, well-rounded, skilful and caring young people equipped and ready for the adventures and opportunities life has to offer.
Breadth of experience is naturally woven into daily life. Pupils can, and do, pursue high academic standards whilst enjoying and succeeding, in many other interests. Every pupil is encouraged, taught and challenged to fulfil his or her true potential, by being immersed in an environment of discovery and wholehearted participation. Teachers strive to allow time and space for academic work to be balanced by sport, music, drama, and a diverse choice of other activities including the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award scheme in the Senior School, service to the community and opportunities for leadership. The College also nurtures an appreciation and love of creativity that often remains with pupils for the rest of their lives.
Staff and Student Quotes
“With state-of-the-art boarding houses and caring, attentive house staff, boarding at Bishop’s Stortford College is home from home for our lively and diverse international community. Outstanding pastoral care complements the excellent classroom teaching experienced by our students. Our boarders are friendly, happy and thrive here at the College.”
“I think boarding is one of my best experiences; it is all about developing independence and being self-disciplined.
Being away from home is never easy for me yet my boarding house provides me with enough comfort and resources to call it my second home. Boarding at the College is a spectacular experience. I can mix with other boarders from different countries and backgrounds, learn about different cultures and try different languages. The activities for boarders also allow me to meet other people from different year groups and explore more British culture than I can experience at home.”
