An independent co-educational boarding and day school for pupils aged 11-18
About the School
Dauntsey’s is a leading, fully co-educational boarding and day school for pupils aged 11 – 18, with a Christian ethos, located in the heart of Wiltshire. The School was founded in 1542 by William Dauntsey and moved to its current location, a 150 acre campus on the edge of the Vale of Pewsey, in 1895. Every pupil is asked to give of their best, be adventurous and to look after each other; pupils are challenged and inspired both inside and outside the classroom.
This school is proud of its academic reputation and tradition of examination success. The curriculum is broad and balanced, offering the opportunity to study an extensive range of subjects. A complementary curriculum covers other important areas such as current affairs, study skills, mindfulness, critical thinking, money management and global issues, promoting independent learning, enabling pupils to fulfil their potential and develop the key skills they will need in later life.
Typically, 80% of candidates achieve A*-B, 50% A*-A at A-Level and more than 70% of candidates achieve A*-A, 45% A* at GCSE-Level.
Academic success is at the heart of all that done at the school, with their ethos being about much more than exam grades. An extensive adventure education programme encourages pupils to develop important life skills, such as resilience, communication, creativity and teamwork.
As a six-day-a-week School with boarding at its heart and extracurricular activities woven into the day, a balance is struck between academic lessons and developing other interests. Evening events, such as lectures, drama and musical performances, are open to day pupils as well as boarders, while Saturday night socials and Sunday outings are often highlights of the week.
The school’s uniquely lively and friendly atmosphere encourages pupils “to have a go”, try new things and so develop their self-confidence and self-belief. This school community thrives on a culture of kindness and mutual respect which leads to a real sense of belonging.
Staff and Student Quotes
“Happiness and success are the two things that most parents put at the top of their wish list for their children. Here, we prioritise happiness. If our pupils – and our staff – are happy, success will follow.”
Mr. Mark Lascelles
“I have loved my time at Dauntsey’s. The teachers are so supportive and the range of activities available mean there really is something for everyone.”
