About the School

Millfield is distinctively different. From its foundation in 1935 through to the present day the school has inspired generations of students to immerse themselves in The Millfield Way to discover their personal brilliance. Millfield has the resource and attitude to bring together key staff to provide an education and experience that honours the individual child at the centre. This doesn’t always happen in other schools. Academic study, cultural and sporting endeavours set every pupil on the path to success. Sitting at the forefront of the School’s ethos is a belief in the goodness of young people, the importance of curiosity, caring attitudes and a shared mindset connecting students, teachers, coaches and parents within the school community.

The breadth of offer and magnificent facilities is unmatched anywhere else in the UK: an Olympic-sized swimming pool, new state of the art golf and cricket centres and equestrian centre which also houses a new indoor riding arena; concert halls, a theatre, art gallery, music school, a hi-tech science block. From theatre, art and music to science, the humanities and the 27 sports on offer, Millfield students are enabled to follow their passions, all supported by expert teaching and coaching.

Millfield provides a rich learning community where being different and discovering individual brilliance is the norm. In addition to a vibrant range of enrichment activities, over 35 visiting lecturers are welcomed each year, building an extensive Academic Extension programme. Critical thinking, debate and discussion opportunities are offered through a range of specific enrichment activities, competitions and events. The School supports students in external competitions, including Olympiads and The Bank of England’s Target 2.0. In the Sixth Form students receive bespoke mentoring and support for applications to academically competitive universities.

Although essentially a rural British school, 20% of Millfield students are international pupils from over 70 countries, a mix unparalleled in the UK. As a full boarding community, the majority of the students are present at weekends and enjoy an extensive programme of activities. The boarding houses have been recognised as impressive, and with years of experience of caring for UK and international pupils, Millfield is a popular choice for overseas families.
